Bentley Wins Opening Set, but Falls to Stonehill in Four

WALTHAM, Mass. – After a strong start to the evening, Bentley University lost the next three sets and fell to Stonehill College, 3-1, in Northeast-10 Conference women's volleyball Tuesday night at the Dana Center.

None of the sets were particularly close with Bentley taking the opening set 25-16 after holding the lead from the opening point. The Skyhawks evened the match with a 25-13 second-set win, grabbed the match lead with a 25-19 tally in the third and closed out the victory with a 25-17 fourth.

Senior Meaghan Lee (Hanover) hit .478 for the Skyhawks (8-3, 2-0 NE-10) with a match-high 13 kills. Junior Kelsey Weymouth (North Attleboro) posted a double-double, with 12 kills and 15 digs, and senior setter Emily Iverson (Elmhurst, Ill.) finished with 39 assists, nine digs and two blocks.

Senior middle blocker Simone Silvera (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook HS) had a hand in six of Bentley's nine kills, and classmate Lauren Colasanti (Northville, N.Y./Northville HS) was one of three Falcons with double-digit digs, finishing with 15.

Leading Bentley in kills were seniors Tatiana Froehlich (Newton/Newton North HS) and Kaleigh Sullivan (Naples, Fla./Harley School (N.Y.)), each with seven.

Bentley hit just .068 in the match and had as many hitting errors (20) as kills (20) over the final three sets. That came after the Falcons finished the first with 11 kills and only three errors.

The Falcons had a chance to tie the match in the fourth with the score even at 10-10. The visitors ran off five unanswered, the start of an ending 15-7 burst.

Bentley, which had been undefeated against East Region opposition, fell to 6-6 overall and 1-1 NE-10. The Falcons will be back in action Friday night with a 7 pm match at Franklin Pierce University.
