Bentley Claims Election Night Victory in New Hampshire, 3-1

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Athletes from across the country, including Florida and California, helped Bentley University record a 3-1 Election Night victory over Southern New Hampshire University in Northeast-10 Conference volleyball Tuesday night at the SNHU Fieldhouse. Scores were 25-19, 22-25, 25-15 and 25-19.

Sophomore Kelsey Buckner (San Marino, Calif./San Marino HS) powered the Falcons with 14 kills, 11 digs and five blocks, and classmate Savannah Dominguez (Miami, Fla./Palmer Trinity HS) followed with nine kills and a career-best five aces.

On a night that saw Bentley post its second best hitting percentage of the year (.346), those two played a key role with Dominguez finishing at .467 and Buckner at .406, the best of the season by a Falcon with at least a dozen kills. Senior co-captain Grace Conner (Santa Barbara, Calif./San Marcos HS) was also a factor with seven kills and no errors for a .500 success rate.

Bentley led from the opening point and hit a sizzling .536 in the opening set with Conner, Buckner and Dominguez combining for 12 kills and no errors in 17 swings.

After the Penmen scored the final seven points to take the second set, Bentley got back on track in the third. An early run of six straight points produced an 8-3 lead and the Falcons closed it out with a 7-1 spurt.

As was the case in the opening set, Bentley never trailed in the fourth after picking up the first three points. The Falcons had six blocks in that one, with both Conner and Buckner involved in three.

Also contributing to the victory were sophomores Tatiana Froehlich (Newton/Newton North HS) and Lauren Colasanti (Northville, Mich./Northville HS), and freshman setter Kyana Miller (San Diego, Calif./Canyon Crest Acad.). Froehlich made eight kills, Colasanti recorded a team-best 15 digs, and Miller helped with 35 assists, three kills and two aces.

Senior Erica Solomon (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) and freshman Emma Houlihan (Shoreham, N.Y.) each had 11 kills for the Penmen (11-15, 3-11 NE-10), but the home team hit only .113 overall.

Bentley (11-18, 6-8 NE-10) closes out the regular season Friday night at New Haven, which has already clinched the regular season conference championship.
