Miller, Conner Help Bentley Sweep Past Stonehill

WALTHAM, Mass. – Freshman setter Kyana Miller (San Diego, Calif./Canyon Crest Acad.) and senior middle Grace Conner (Santa Barbara, Calif./San Marcos HS) turned in strong efforts as Bentley University swept past Stonehill College, 3-0, in Northeast-10 Conference women's volleyball Tuesday night at the Dana Center.

Miller filled the stat sheet with 31 assists, three aces, two kills and five digs while Conner's line included eight kills, four blocks and a .389 hitting percentage.

Scores were 25-22, 25-17 and 25-23 with each set having five ties and two lead changes before the Falcons closed it out. Bentley (10-17, 5-7 NE-10) took the lead for good in the first at 8-7, in the second at 18-17 and in the finale at 21-20.

Miller's three aces came on consecutive serves during a 9-1 spurt in the first that opened a 14-8 lead. That was extended to 18-10, and after the Skyhawks closed to within two at 19-17, Bentley countered with five straight points to regain control.

The second set saw Bentley score the final ten points, with sophomore Kelsey Buckner (San Marino, Calif./San Marino HS) the server for the final nine. Conner had three kills and two block assists over that stretch, and sophomore Tatiana Froehlich (Newton/Newton North HS) made two kills and a block assist.

Miller had 13 assists in the third set, with most of those directed to Buckner (six kills) and Froehlich (five). Buckner and Conner combined on a block for match point.

Froehlich led Bentley with nine kills, and Buckner had 11 digs and two blocks to go along with her seven kills.

As a team, Bentley had ten aces, a season-best for a three-set match. Five different players had at least one, with freshman Jessica Segal (West Harrison, N.Y./Harrison HS) and sophomores Savannah Dominguez (Miami, Fla./Palmer Trinity) and Alex Tator (Los Angeles, Calif./Marlborough School) each having two.

Stonehill (12-13, 6-7 NE-10) hit just .048 as a team while dropping its third straight match.

Bentley will close out its home schedule Friday night against American International College.
