WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior Potawe Simms (East Patchogue, N.Y.) hit .400 with a match-high 11 kills and junior Chelsea Overholt (Centravilla, Va.) served four of her team's 11 aces as Adelphi University swept past Bentley University, 3-0, in Northeast-10 Conference women's volleyball Saturday afternoon at the Dana Center.

The Panthers took the opening set in convincing fashion (25-16) and completed the victory by taking the next two, 26-24 and 25-22. The win boosted Adelphi to 14-7 overall and 7-3 in the NE-10, with Bentley falling to 11-12 overall and 6-5 in the conference.

The opening set saw the visitors score the first five points and extend the advantage to 10-2. Bentley got as close as five points just once, at 15-10, but Adelphi quickly regained control with a spurt of 8-2.

The pivotal second set saw Bentley in front for the last time at 22-21. A kill by Adelphi junior Emily Dorko (Matamoras, Pa.) evened the score and a Panther block that included Dorko gave AU the lead back. The Falcons tied things at 23-23 and again at 24, but kills by freshman Kaitlyn DeStefano (Farmingdale, N.Y. and Overholt closed out the set and gave the Panthers a 2-0 lead in the match.

With the third set even at 15, Adelphi earned the next three points and never trailed again, with a kill by junior Samantha Rico (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) ending the afternoon.

Overholt, in addition to her four aces, provided ten kills and nine digs for Adelphi. Sophomore Katie Bryson (Massapequa, N.Y. handled the setting and finished with 32 assists and six kills.

Freshman Savannah Dominguez (Miami, Fla./Palmer-Trinity HS) led Bentley with eight kills, two blocks and a .375 hitting percentage. Classmate Jennifer Segar (Mendon, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy HS) was the team-leader in digs, finishing with 12.

Serving success played a major factor in the match.  While Adelphi had 11 aces, Bentley managed only one and had eight serving errors.

Bentley, currently in ninth place in the conference (eight make the playoffs), is back in action Tuesday with a 7 pm match at NE-10 co-leader Stonehill College.
