Buckner, Colasanti Help Bentley to Five-Set Win at Saint Rose

ALBANY, N.Y. – Freshman outside Kelsey Buckner (San Marino, Calif./San Marino HS) had 14 kills and 12 digs for her seventh double-double of the season and classmate Lauren Colasanti (Northville, Mich./Northville HS) served six aces as Bentley University snapped a five-match slide with a 3-2 come-from-behind win over The College of Saint Rose in Northeast-10 Conference women's volleyball Friday night at the Nolan Gymnasium.

After being blasted in the opening set, 25-11, Bentley came alive and took the next two by scores of 27-25 and 25-22.  The Golden Knights rolled to a 25-12 win in the fourth, evening things at 2-2, but the Falcons turned in a solid effort in the fifth, 15-11, to close out the match on a winning note.

The end of the second set was one of the turning points in a match that had several swings.  Bentley, down 25-24 after a block by Saint Rose, used kills by freshman Savannah Dominguez (Miami, Fla./ Palmer Trinity HS) and junior Grace Conner (Santa Barbara, Calif./San Marcos HS) to turn the one-point deficit into a one-point lead, 26-25. Dominguez followed with an ace, giving the second set to the Falcons.

The third set saw Bentley use a 10-1 surge to overcome a 21-15 deficit and take a 2-1 lead in the set. Colasanti had three service aces during that run.

In the finale, Buckner led the Falcons with three kills and five digs, and Bentley also received three kills from freshman Kaleigh Sullivan (Victor, N.Y./Harley School).  The Falcons maintained the lead in the fifth set after a Sullivan kill broke a 6-6 tie.

Buckner, who also had three blocks, was followed in the kills column by Conner with nine. Freshman setter Alex Tator (Los Angeles, Calif./Marlborough School) had 29 assists, and Colasanti led the defense with 20 digs.  Senior captain Virginia Wong (Quincy, Mass./North Quincy HS) also contributed defensively with 14 digs and two blocks.

Senior Aubrey Bobo (Oneida, N.Y.) had an outstanding match for Saint Rose, which dipped to 10-6 overall after suffering just its second loss in seven conference matches. She hit .442 with 22 kills, eight digs and five assists.

Bentley, 9-10 overall and 4-3 NE-10, remains in the Empire State to play a 1 pm match at Le Moyne College Saturday.
