Buckner, Colasanti Earn All-Tourney Honors as Bentley Completes 3-0 Weekend

WALTHAM, Mass. – Freshmen Kelsey Buckner (San Marino, Calif./San Marino HS) and Lauren Colasanti (Northville, Mich./Northville HS) earned All-Tournament honors as the Bentley University women's volleyball team completed its own Invitational with a perfect 3-0 record following a pair of 3-1 wins on Saturday at the Dana Center.

Bentley, which has now won four in a row to improve to 6-4 on the season, bested Molloy College in four in its first match of the day, and did the same to Queens College in the finale. The Molloy scores were 25-23, 25-19, 22-25 and 25-19 and all three Falcon wins against Queens were by two (27-25, 25-23, 18-25 and 25-23).

Buckner put down 16 kills against Molloy, a career best until she recorded 20 later in the day against the Knights. Six of those came in the decisive fourth set.

Freshman Tatiana Froehlich (Newton/Newton North HS) followed with nine kills, hit a lofty .615 and had a hand in on four blocks. Sophomore Ashley Ahearn (Marshfield/Marshfield HS) also had nine kills with a .500 hitting percentage, and freshman Alex Tator (Los Angeles, Calif./Marlborough School) registered a career-best 48 assists.

Colasanti had a team-high 16 digs in the Molloy match, and also reaching doubles were freshman Jennifer Segar (Mendon, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) and senior Virginia Wong (Quincy/North Quincy HS), with 14 and 13, respectively.

The match against Queens was close throughout, with 38 lead changes, including 11 in the final set, and 13 lead changes.

In the fourth set, the Falcons scored the final six points after trailing 23-19. A Buckner kill became the comeback and three straight attack errors by Queens evened the set at 23-all.  Another kill by Buckner gave Bentley its first lead since 14-13, and an Ahearn kill ended the match.

Buckner, in addition to the 20 kills, completed her third double-double with 18 digs, her highest total as a collegian. Ahearn followed with 13 kills, and Tator had a total of 45 assists. Colasanti matched her career-best with 23 digs and also served four aces for the third time this season.

Senior Jovana Pavlovic (Belgrade, Serbia) was outstanding for Queens (1-3), hitting .513 with 21 kills, 14 digs and eight blocks.

Bentley's next match is Wednesday night at Southern Connecticut State (7:30 pm).
