Segar & Tator Help Bentley Best Assumption in Four

WALTHAM, Mass. – Freshman Jennifer Segar (Mendon, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy HS) served seven aces and classmate Alex Tator (Los Angeles, Calif./Marlborough School) provided a career-best 41 assists as Bentley University posted a 3-1 win over Assumption College in Northeast-10 Conference women's volleyball Tuesday night at the Dana Center.

Bentley took the first two sets in convincing fashion, 25-17 and 25-10, but Assumption came alive to take the third, 25-19. A late 7-0 run in what proved to be the final set helped the Falcons take the fourth 25-21 to lock up the victory.

In the fourth, Bentley was on the short end of a 17-13 score before running off seven straight points. That flurry included a pair of kills from sophomore Ashley Ahearn (Marshfield/Marshfield HS) and two blocks by freshman Savannah Dominguez (Miami, Fla./Palmer Trinity HS). Assumption got back to within one at 21-20, but two Tator kills returned the momentum to the Falcons, and junior Grace Conner (Santa Barbara, Calif./San Marcos HS) finished the match with her ninth kill of the night.

Four of Segar's seven aces came in the second set, and her night also included 10 digs. Tator, in addition to topping 40 assists for the first time as a collegian, hit an even .500 with five kills in eight swings, and also recorded six digs.

Freshman Kelsey Buckner (San Marino, Calif./San Marino HS) led Bentley and matched her career-best with 14 kills. Connor hit .538 en route to her nine kills, and Ahearn also had nine.  Dominguez finished with eight kills and seven blocks, and freshman libero Lauren Colasanti (Northville, Mich./Northville HS) had a 23-dig night.

For Assumption, senior Sam Lupinski (Waltham) had seven kills and four blocks in her return to her hometown, and sophomore setter Kristin Flatekval (Mahwah, N.J.) had the assist on 28 of her team's 30 kills.

The Falcons will be back at home this weekend with matches against Georgian Court, Molloy and Queens in the annual Bentley Invitational.
