Outstanding Hitting Propels Bentley to 3-0 Win over Southern Connecticut

WALTHAM, Mass. -- Sophomore Bridget Lawson (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West HS) and a trio of seniors combined for 35 kills without an error as Bentley University took only 63 minutes to record a three-set victory over Southern Connecticut State in Northeast-10 Conference women's volleyball Saturday afternoon at the Dana Center.

Bentley took the first and third sets by identical 25-21 scores and sandwiched a 25-12 second-set victory in between while winning its third straight match. The Falcons, now 5-1 in its last six contests, improved to 15-12 overall and 8-4 in the NE-10. Southern dipped to 13-13 overall and 5-8 in the conference.

Lawson hit a lofty .769 with 10 kills in 13 swings. Among the seniors, Andrea Farah (Miami, Fla./ Palmer-Trinity HS) had 10 kills and a .417 percentage, Alaura Berry (San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo HS) provided nine kills in 17 attempts (.529) and Morgan O'Laughlin (Hollister, Calif./San Benito HS) hit .429 with six kills.

As a team, Bentley hit .396, its second best percentage of the season, and committed only five attack errors.

Senior setter Kelly Mee (Ivyland, Pa./Council Rock North HS) registered 37 assists and also contributed seven digs, four kills and two blocks. Maitlyn Kraft (New Braunfels, Texas/St. Mary's Hall), also a senior, led the Falcons in digs with 14, two more than O'Laughlin recorded, and Berry was involved in five of Bentley's seven blocks.

Junior Megan Hiss (Cold Spring, N.Y.) hit .500 with nine kills for Southern, and sophomore setter Kimberly Lachowicz (Mansfield, Texas) finished with 26 assists and three aces.

Bentley is back in action on Wednesday, a 7 pm match at conference-leading New Haven.
