Strong Hitting Match by Berry Lifts Bentley Past Franklin Pierce, 3-1

WALTHAM, Mass. -- Senior middle Alaura Berry (San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo HS) hit a lofty .579, with 12 kills and only one error in 19 attempts, powering Bentley University to a 3-1 win over Franklin Pierce University in Northeast-10 Conference women's volleyball Friday evening at the Dana Center.

The 25-13, 22-25, 25-18, 25-17 victory lifted the Falcons to a season-best two matches over .500. Bentley, with four wins in its last five outings, left the court 14-12 overall and 7-4 in the NE-10, moving into a tie for fifth place. Franklin Pierce dropped to 10-7 overall and 3-7 in the conference.

Bentley put away the opening set by amassing 13 of the final 17 points after the Ravens were within three at 12-9. The flurry included aces from three different players: senior setter Kelly Mee (Ivyland, Pa./Council Rock North HS), senior libero Maitlyn Kraft (New Braunfels, Texas/St. Mary's Hall) and freshman Kristina Wilson (Boca Raton, Fla./Spanish River HS).

After Franklin Pierce came back in the second set, Bentley came back to regain the advantage in the third, closing with a 13-6 spurt after it was tied at 12. The Falcons picked up the first three points in the fourth and never looked back en route to closing out the match.

Senior Morgan O'Laughlin (Hollister, Calif./San Benito HS) followed Berry in kills, finishing with 10, and sophomore Bridget Lawson (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West HS) had a solid all-around match. She hit .333 with eight kills and also came up with seven blocks.

Mee contributed 39 assists, four kills and four aces and Kraft provided a career-best 31 digs.
