Strong Hitting Performance Produces a Pair of 3-0 Wins for Bentley in Florida

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Hitting over .400 in five of its six sets, the Bentley University women's volleyball team posted a pair of 3-0 wins Friday in the Pepsi Bash at the Beach Tournament at Palm Beach Atlantic University. The Falcons disposed of Ohio Valley University by the scores of 25-19, 25-11 and 25-16, and topped Ave Maria University, 25-17, 25-12 and 25-19.

Seniors Alaura Berry (San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo HS) and Andrea Farah (Miami, Fla./ Palmer Trinity HS), along with freshman Ashley Ahearn (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield HS), led the Falcons in hitting in both matches.

Against Ohio Valley (2-15), Berry and Farah both had seven kills, and Ahearn had five, with a .444 hitting percentage. Senior Morgan O'Laughlin (Hollister, Calif./San Benito HS) added six kills, with no errors, in only nine swings.

Berry put down a team-best 15 kills, with only one error, for a .560 hitting mark against Ave Maria (2-15), and both Farah and Ahearn were more efficient. Farah hit .611 with 12 kills and Ahearn a lofty .692 with 10 kills. As a team, Bentley swung at a .430 success rate against the Lady Gyrenes.

Freshman Kristina Wilson (Boca Raton, Fla./Spanish River HS), who like Farah is from south Florida, delivered a dozen aces in the two contests, including a career-high nine against Ohio Valley.

Senior setter Kelly Mee (Ivyland, Pa./Council Rock North HS) earned 29 assists in the Ohio Valley match and had 35 against Ave Maria, giving her an average of 10.7 per set for the day.

The tournament continues on Saturday with Bentley (10-9) taking on both the host school and Flagler College.
