After Lost to C.W. Post, Berry & Mee Lead Bentley Past Queens in Four

WALTHAM, Mass. -- Thirteen kills and six blocks by senior middle blocker Alaura Berry (San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo HS) and 45 assists from senior setter Kelly Mee (Ivyland, Pa./Council Rock North HS) helped propel the Bentley University women's volleyball team to a four-set win over Queens College in the final match of the Northeast-10/East Coast Conference Challenge Saturday afternoon at the Dana Center.

Bentley, 5-5 on the season, finished the two-day event with one win in three matches after falling in three to Dowling Friday night and to C.W. Post in four Saturday morning.

Against Queens (2-4), Bentley took the first two sets, 25-18 and 25-16. The Falcons finished the first with a 9-3 spurt and took control of the second with a 13-4 run that turned a one-point deficit into a 17-9 advantage.

In addition to setting season-bests for kills and blocks, Berry hit .400 and served a couple aces. Senior Andrea Farah (Miami, Fla./Trinity Palmer HS) followed with 10 kills and freshman Ashley Ahearn (Marshfield/Marshfield HS) hit .615 with nine kills and only one error in 13 swings.

Senior libero Maitlyn Kraft (New Braunfels, Texas/St. Mary's Hall) also had a strong match, with a career-best 30 digs and three aces. The latter number was matched by freshman Kristina Wilson (Boca Raton, Fla./Spanish River HS)

The C.W. Post match was even at one set apiece after Bentley bounced back from a 25-14 opening loss to take the second, 25-17. The Pioneers rallied for a 25-23 win in the third, scoring the final two points on a kill and an ace from senior Marina Guagdagnini (Huntington Beach, Calif.), and closed out the match with a 25-18 decision in the fourth.

Freshman Makamae Namahoe (Hilo, Hawaii) led C.W. Post with 11 kills and no errors, a .458 hitting percentage and four of her team's 13 aces.

Ahearn and Farah topped Bentley in kills, with 11 and 10, respectively. Mee provided 34 assists, three aces and nine digs, and Kraft made 16 digs.

Berry and Kraft were named to the All-Tournament Team along with Sarah Coscia and JIll Hadder of UMass-Lowell, Maja Potpara and Patrycja Klekotka of Dowling, Merrimack's Molly Cindric, Queens' Latoya Edward, and Namahoe and Guadagnini of C.W. Post. Namahoe and Potpara shared MVP honors.

Bentley is back in action on Wednesday, a 7 pm Northeast-10 match at UMass-Lowell.
