Bentley Splits on Day 2 of Bentley Invitational; All-Tourney Honors for Farah & Kraft

WALTHAM, Mass. -- Bentley University seniors Maitlyn Kraft (New Braunfels, Texas/St. Mary's Hall) and Andrea Farah (Miami, Fla./Palmer Trinity HS) both earned All-Tournament honors as the Bentley Invitational volleyball tournament concluded Saturday afternoon at the Dana Center.

Bentley, 3-3 overall and 2-1 in the tournament, split its two matches on Saturday. The Falcons cruised to a 3-0 victory over Holy Family University in their first match of the day and saw their three-match winning streak halted with a 3-1 loss to the University of New Haven in their final tournament match.

There were no ties and no lead changes throughout the Holy Family match with the scores 25-19, 25-16 and 25-12. Bentley scored the first five points of the first set, the first six en route to an 11-1 lead in the second and the first four (and 13 of the first 16) in the third.

Farah, against the Tigers, hit .370 with 13 kills, and Kraft helped lead the defense with 13 digs. Senior setter Kelly Mee (Ivyland, Pa./Council Rock North HS) finished with 30 assists, senior Alaura Berry (San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo HS) made five blocks and sophomore Grace Conner (Santa Barbara, Calif./San Marcos HS) contributed seven kills and three aces.

New Haven improved to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the tournament with a 25-15, 25-14, 24-26, 25-11 win over the Falcons. Junior setter Chelsey Alpough (Torrance, Calif.) led the way for the Chargers with 37 assists and 15 digs, and both Keidy Candelaria (Vega Baja, P.R.) and Elizabeth Akinbiyl (Miami Gardens, Fla.) made 14 kills.

Berry and Farah led Bentley in kills, with 11 and 10, respectively. Mee delivered 30 assists, Conner had five blocks and Kraft came up with 17 digs.

New Haven's Alpough was named the tournament's MVP, and the All-Tournament Team also included Agatha Baliddawa (Bridgeport), Ivana Kovacevic-Jurasin (Bridgeport), Amy Berry (Georgian Court), Aimee Drabyn (Holy Family), Heather Ladao (New Haven), Laura Huselton (Stonehill) and Sydney Maxey (Stonehill).

Bentley is back at home on Tuesday for a 7 pm Northeast-10 match with American International.
