Rowan Captures 60 Meter Dash at Panther Invitational

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Freshman HaiLian Rowan (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Lakeland HS) finished first in the 60 meter dash to lead the Bentley University women's indoor track and field team during the Panther Invitational II at Plymouth State University Saturday.

After qualifying second in 8.33 seconds, Rowan sprinted to an 8.19 in the finals to break her personal best by 0.11 seconds and finish a quarter second in front of runner-up Ashley Keleher. Rowan also set a new PR in the 200 with her 26.90 bettering her old mark by 1.80 seconds. She was sixth among 14 events in the race.

In both events, Rowan moved to number seven on Bentley's all-time list.

Freshman Sophia Dearcop (Pittsford, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy HS) finished fourth of 11 in the 400 after posting  a time of 1:09.40.

Junior Ariana Minassian (Wakefield, Mass./Wakefield HS) scored in three events as she finished fourth in both the long jump (14'11.25") and the triple jump (30'11") as well as seventh in the high jump (4'7.5").

In the shot put, junior Liz DeVarney (Northborough, Mass./Algonquin Reg. HS) and senior Anyfern Gonzalez (Salem, Mass./Salem HS) were fourth and fifth respectively. Devarney's best throw was 27'10" and Gonzalez turned in a 27'4.75".

Senior Anna Jones (Ipswich, Mass./Ipswich HS) lowered her personal best by nearly 20 seconds with her time of 6:01.27 good for seventh place.

Next Friday, Bentley will be at Boston University for the David Hemery Valentine Invitational.
