Davies Breaks School Record in 55 Hurdles

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Bentley University senior captain Chase Davies (Marblehead, Mass./ Marblehead HS), owner of three school records, added another to her collection Saturday during the William Sutherland Invitational at Southern Connecticut State University's Moore Field House.

Davies took first place in the 55 meter hurdles and broke a 32-year-old school record in the event twice, with times of 8.67 in the preliminaries and 8.63 in the finals. The previous mark, set by Susan Chamberlain at Harvard in 1990, was 8.6 manual time, which converts to an 8.84. It was also good for eighth on the Northeast-10 Conference's season performance list.

Davies also owns the indoor record in the 60 hurdles and the outdoor records in the heptathlon and the 100 hurdles.

On Saturday, she was also 10th of 18 in the long jump (15'0") and 13th of 27 in the shot put (29.9.25").

Bentley had eight other top-five finishes in the meet, which helped the Falcons finish fourth of eight teams with 59 points.

Among them was junior Hannah Greene (Weston, Conn./Weston HS), who cleared 5'1" in the high jump to place second.  Also in the high jump, sophomore Adriana Minasian (Wakefield, Mass./ Wakefield HS), was sixth with a 4'11". Both bettered their previous best by two inches and they moved to sixth and eighth, respectively, on Bentley's all-time list.

In the mile, freshmen Lauren Joseph (Coventry, R.I./Coventry HS) and Caitlin Burmester (Willow Grove, Pa./Upper Dublin HS) were third and fifth, respectively. Joseph's 5:29.68 put her ninth on the NE10 season performance list and Burmester's 5:31.13, a PR by 8.33 seconds, put her tenth.

Sophomore Lucy Ambroult (Holbrook, Mass./Holbrook HS) was fourth of 18 in the long jump (16'5.75") and fifth of 20 in the 55 meter dash (7.58).

In the triple jump, sophomore Angie Grabmeier (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton HS) was fourth (33'8.5") and Minasian fifth (32'7"). Grabmeier, in her first indoor action as a collegian, moved to tenth on Bentley's all-time list in the event.

Freshman Brooke Neri (Westbrook, Conn./Westbrook HS) was third in the 3,000 with her 11:59.69 a personal best by two seconds.

Southern New Hampshire (104) topped the team standings with Franklin Pierce (96) and New Haven (63) also in front of the Falcons.

On Friday, Bentley will compete in the John Thomas Terrier Classic at Boston University.
