Hurwitz, Ambroult & Grabmeier Stand Out for Bentley at Merrimack

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Senior Sydney Hurwitz (Newton/Newton North HS) and freshmen Lucy Ambroult (Holbrook/Holbrook HS) and Angie Grabmeier (Hopkinton/ Hopkinton HS) turned in quality performances for the Bentley University women's track and field team during a quadrangular women's track meet at Merrimack College Friday afternoon.

Hurwitz and Ambroult finished second and third, respectively, in the long jump. Hurwitz cleared 18 feet, 1.75 inches and Ambroult established a new personal best with a 17'8". That moved her to third on the Northeast-10 Conference performance list and fourth in program history. In the same event, Grabmeier improved on her PR by nearly eight inches with a jump of 16'4.5", good for seventh among 11 competitors.

Hurwitz and junior Chase Davies (Marblehead/Marblehead HS) were second and third, respectively, in the 100 meter hurdles. They posted impressive times (Hurwitz 15.09 seconds, Chase 15.12) but don't qualify for the record books as they were wind-aided. They do count for the NE10 performance list, however, and were good for fourth and fifth, respectively.

Grabmeier had Bentley's lone win on the day as she captured the triple jump in 36'0". Also in that event, classmate Adriana Minasian (Wakefield/Wakefield HS) cleared 32'5.75" to move to 10th on the NE10 list.

Ambroult was second of 11 in the 100 (12.77) and fifth of 12 in the 200 (27.29) with both of those wind-aided. She was also part of Bentley's 4x100 relay team that was third in 51.32. That quartet also included Hurwitz, Davies and Grabmeier.

In the 400 meters, sophomore Julia Hultin (Sudbury/Lincoln-Sudbury Reg. HS) was second of five with a 1:01.88. Senior Amanda McElroy (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Governor Livingston HS) was fourth of 11 in the 800 (2:34.18) and junior Megan Niedzwiecki (Old Orchard Beach, Maine/Old Orchard Beach HS) improved on her previous best in the discus by 19 inches with a throw of 98'7".

Bentley's final meet before next month's Northeast-10 Championships is next Saturday at Southern New Hampshire.
