Mattson & Morena Bentley’s Top Performers at Elm City Classic

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Freshman Stephanie Mattson (Smithfield, R.I./Smithfield HS) and junior Julia Morena (Boylston, Mass./Tahanto Regional HS) were the top performers for the Bentley University women's indoor track team during the two-day Elm City Classic which concluded Friday afternoon at Southern Connecticut State University.

Mattson had Bentley's only victory of the meet as she captured the long jump on Thursday with a jump of 17 feet, 8.75 inches, a performance that ranked third in school history.  The Falcons also had the third-place finisher, sophomore Courtney Wilson (Morrisonville, N.Y./Beekmantown Central HS), who cleared 16'7".

Mattson also registered he eighth-best 55-meter time in program history as she placed eighth of 18 in 7.69 seconds.

Morena shattered her own personal best while finishing third of 18 in the 3,000 meters. She reached the line in 10:50.63 to lower her PR, set at the Northeast-10 Conference Championships in February, by 37.09 seconds.

Also in the 3000, junior Mary Leach (Peabody, Mass./Peabody Veterans HS) was ninth (11:25.16), senior Samantha Albanese (Lynnfield, Mass./Lynnfield HS) was 11th in 11:34.06 and senior Arianne Bourgault (Fitchburg, Mass./Fitchburg HS) established a new PR with a 11:42.29.

Senior Olyvia Leahy (New Bedford/New Bedford HS) was fourth in the 55 meter hurdles (9.61 seconds), senior Anna Pickett (Schenectady, N.Y./Guilderland HS) finished fifth in the mile with her 5:46.77 a PR by 14.31 seconds, and sophomore Caroline Conrad (Bedford, N.H./Bedford HS) followed in sixth (5:52.47).

In the team standings, Bentley was sixth with a total of 28 points.

The Falcons will be off for the next five weeks for exams and holidays with the next meet not until the Reggie Poyau Invitational at Brandeis Jan. 16.
