Varsell Posts Division II's Fast Mile of the Season Friday Night at BU

BOSTON, Mass. – A week after provisionally qualifying for the NCAA Division II Indoor Track Championships, Bentley University grad student and All-America Amy Varsell (Burlington, Conn./Lewis S. Mills HS) posted the fastest mile by a Division II runner thus far this winter Friday night during the John Thomas Terrier Invitational at Boston University's Track and Tennis Center.

Varsell's time of 4:53.39 improved on her performance from Sunday's Greater Boston Track Club Invitational by 8.7 seconds and moved her to number two on Bentley's all-time list. She was third in her heat and placed 15th of 127 overall, including 11th amongst collegians.

Other highlights for the Bentley women's track team during the meet were registered by seniors Ashley Nichols (Kenmore, Wash./Inglemoor HS) and Taren Kershaw (Revere/Revere HS). Nichols won her heat in the 5,000 meters with her time of 17:59.73 a new personal best by more than 23 seconds and good for third on Bentley's all-time list. Overall, she was 26th of 66.

Kershaw ran the 200 meters in 27.40 seconds, moving into a tie for ninth on Bentley's all-time list.

In the long jump, junior Tatiana Froehlich (Newton/Newton North HS) improved on her PR by more than 13 seconds with a distance of 14 feet, one-quarter inch.

The next action for Bentley is the Harvard Invitational on Saturday.
