Three Bentley Runners Earn All-East Recognition

WALTHAM, Mass. – Three members of the Bentley University outdoor track and field teams have been selected for Division II All-East Region honors by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, with all three earning the recognition in two events.

They are seniors Caitlin Fahey (Bridgewater/Coyle-Cassidy HS) and Amy Varsell (Burlington, Conn./Burlington HS), who were recognized in both the 800 and 1500 meters, and freshman Edy-Elliot Uthman-Olukokun (West Warwick, R.I./West Warwick The top five in each region in each event earned All-Region accolades.

Fahey and Varsell ranked first and second, respectively, in the East in the 1500, an event they'll both be competing in Thursday when the NCAA Division II Championships get underway at the Thunderdome in Pueblo, Colo. Fahey's time of 4:29.43 ranks ninth on the seed list for the 1500 and Varsell's 4:31.14 is 15th.

They also ranked first and third in the 800, with Fahey posting a region-best 2:11.28 and Varsell owning a 2:12.98.

Uthman-Olukokun ranked fourth in the 100 meters (10.91 seconds) and fifth in the 200 (21.85). Both of those times rank second in Bentley history.

All three have previously earned All-Region honors from the USTFCCCA. Varsell's resume includes a total of 11 All-Region awards (seven outdoors, three indoors, one cross country) and Fahey has been recognized five times (two outdoors, two indoors, one XC). Uthman-Olukokun was an All-Region honoree in the 60 during the indoor season that ended in March.
