Fahey Runs to Victory in George Davis Invitational

LOWELL, Mass. – An outstanding senior year for Bentley University's Caitlin Fahey (Bridgewater/Coyle-Cassidy HS) continued on Saturday as she turned in a winning effort in the 800 meters during the George Davis Invitational at UMass-Lowell.

Fahey posted a 2:12.61, bettering her personal best by exactly three seconds and moving to number two on Bentley's all-time list in the event. She provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division II championships, with that clocking putting her at number nine on the performance list.

Fahey, who had previously met the NCAA provisional standard in the 1500, won the race by nearly four seconds, with UMass-Lowell's Karie Judge second in 2:16.54.

Bentley's second-highest finish in the meet was registered by senior All-America Amy Varsell (Burlington, Conn./Lewis S. Mills HS). She was sixth of 39 in the 1500, finishing with a 4:59.33 on a cold and windy day.

Senior Melissa Kimball (Weymouth/Weymouth HS) was 10th of 33 in the 400 meters (1:02.42) and was also part of the Falcons' 4x100 relay that placed ninth in 53.29. That quartet also included sophomore Melanie Lilly (Lawrence/Lawrence HS) and freshmen Kendal Pratt (Topsfield/Masconomet Reg. HS) and Heather Piscatelli (North Haven, Conn./North Haven HS).

In the field events, Bentley's highest finisher was sophomore Tatiana Froehlich (Newton/ Newton North HS) in the discus. Her throw of 101 feet, 7 inches put her tenth of 27. Two places behind her, with a distance of 96 feet, 3 inches, was junior Aubrey Batzinger (Wallington, Conn./Lyman Hall).

Sophomore Brynnan Farrington (Shirley/Ayer HS) was 12th of 27 in the shot put (34'4.25") and classmate Jackie Carlson (Kensington, Conn./Berlin HS) was 13th of 28 in the javelin (96'5").

Next Saturday, Bentley will compete in the New Hampshire Wildcat Invitational.
