Fahey Leads Assault on Bentley Record Book during New Englands

BOSTON, Mass. – Senior Caitlin Fahey (Bridgewater/Coyle-Cassidy HS) led an assault on the Bentley University women's track record book, smashing her own record in the mile, during the New England Championships at Boston University's Track and Tennis Center Saturday.

Fahey earned All-New England honors and bettered the school record she set earlier this month at Dartmouth by more than eight seconds. Her time of 4:49.36 was good for fourth in the meet, behind a trio of Division I athletes, and was the second best recorded by a Division II athlete nationwide during the indoor season.

Fahey also helped break the school record in the 4x400 relay, with Bentley's time of 4:02.09 improving on the former standard, set at the same meet a year ago, by nearly a full second. Joining with Fahey were classmates Andrea Crowley (Bourne/Bourne HS) and Melissa Kimball (Weymouth/ Weymouth HS), along with freshman Kendal Pratt (Topsfield/Masconomet Reg. HS).

The third record of the day came in the triple jump with senior Keisha Johnson (Randolph/ Randolph HS) taking possession of the mark that had been owned for the past 21 years by Kim Overy. She tied for 16th with a distance of 36 feet, 5 inches, besting the former standard by an inch.

In the women's team standings, Bentley tied for 27th place with five points, all earned by Fahey with her fourth place finish.

On the men's side, Bentley was led by freshmen Edy-Elliot Uthman-Olukokun (West Warwick, R.I./West Warwick HS) and Connor Hichens (Sharon/Sharon HS). Uthman-Olukokun finished 12th in the semifinals of the 60 meters with a time of 7.14. Hichens moved to sixth on the Falcons' all-time list in the triple jump, with his 43 feet, 7.75 inch leap a new personal best.

The Bentley men's team did not score during the two-day meet.
