Wegner & Dooley Top Performers for Bentley Women at Poyau Memorial

WALTHAM, Mass. – Freshmen Vanessa Wegner (Westborough/Westborough HS) and Tara Dooley (Lee/Lee HS) had the top performances for the Bentley University women's indoor track team during Saturday's Reggie Poyau Memorial Meet at Brandeis University.

Wegner had Bentley's only first-place finish in the meet, her time of 1:01.03 in the 400 meters putting her across the finish line 0.43 seconds in front of runner-up Katasi Kulubya of Emmanuel. Also in the 400, sophomore Christine Smith (Bloomfield, Conn./Northwest Catholic HS) was sixth (1:03.69).

Wegner and Smith also helped Bentley finish fourth in the 4x400 relay. They combined with senior Natalie Caldwell (Greenbrae, Calif./Redwood HS) and junior Amy Margolius (Acton/Acton-Boxborough Reg. HS) for a time of 4:12.44.

Dooley, in her first career indoor race, was second in the mile, with her 5:14.80 placing her sixth on Bentley's all-time list in the event.

Bentley's other second was posted by sophomore Ashley Nichols (Kenmore, Wash./Inglemoor HS) in the 5000 meters (19:07.74).

Sophomore Brittany Pandolph (Tewksbury/Tewksbury HS) took third in the shot put (35 feet, 10.75 inches) and junior Caitlin Fahey (Bridgewater/Coyle-Cassidy HS) was fourth in the 3,000 with her time of 10:43.26 a personal best.

In the team standings, Bentley finished fifth among eight teams with a score of 48. Stonehill College bested UMass-Lowell for the top spot, 129-111, and both Brandeis (82) and Keene State (71) finished in front of Bentley.

This was the final meet for Bentley until the Greater Boston Track Club Championships on Jan. 22.
