Marrero Finishes 2nd in 10K at Northeast-10 Championships

LOWELL, Mass. -- Bentley University junior Evelyn Marrero (Amsterdam, N.Y./Amsterdam HS) finished second in the 10,000 meter run during the first day of competition at the Northeast-10 Conference Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships Friday night at UMass-Lowell.

It marked the second straight year that Marrero placed second in the meet's longest event, with her time an improvement of about 34 seconds over her 2010 performance. She finished about 31 seconds back of Stonehill's Caroline McBride, who broke the tape in 39:35.72.

Bentley's other top ten performances during the meet's opening day were achieved by freshman Brittany Pandolph (Tewksbury/Tewksbury HS) and junior Keisha Johnson (Randolph/ Randolph HS).

Pandolph was seventh in the javelin with a throw of 114 feet, seven inches, and Johnson placed ninth in the long jump, clearing 15 feet, 8.25 inches.

The meet resumes at 10:30 am Saturday.
