Varsell Breaks a School Record Again, Provisionally Qualifies for NCAA Championships

PRINCETON, N.J. -- For the seventh time since late January, Bentley University sophomore standout Amy Varsell (Burlington, Conn./Lewis S. Mills HS) has broken a school record.

The latest came Friday night in the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton University. She posted a time of 2:13.09 in the 800 meters, bettering the outdoor standard of 2:14.99 that she set last month at the Raleigh Relays.  In the process, she provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships, with her time the 15th best recorded in Division II thus far this season.

Varsell finished eighth of 13 in her hear, and 35th of 74 overall in the predominantly Division I meet.

Three other Bentley runners also competed in the meet, all in the 5,000 meters. Sophomore John Drago (Avon, Conn./Avon HS) set a PR with a time of 14:53.50 as he finished 11th of 28 in his heat and 91st of 153 overall.

On the women's side, freshman Ashley Nichols (Kenmore, Wash./Inglemoor HS) and junior Evelyn Marrero (Amsterdam, N.Y./Amsterdam HS) recorded times of 18:23.85 and 18:36.80, respectively. Among 29 runners in their heat, Nichols was 18th and 22th.  Overall, they were 77th and 81st of 88.

The rest of the Bentley team is scheduled to compete at the Tufts Invitational on Saturday.
