Varsell Sets 2nd School Record in 2 Days at Raleigh Relays

RALEIGH, N.C. -- For the second time in as many days, Bentley University sophomore Amy Varsell (Burlington, Conn./Lewis S. Mills HS) broke a school record while competing in the Raleigh Relays at North Carolina State University's Paul Derr Track.

Varsell, who finished fourth in the 800 at the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships to earn All-America honors, posted a time of 2:14.99 Saturday afternoon to take possession of a Bentley record owned by Suzy Walsh since 1994. Walsh's time, set at a meet held at MIT, was a manually-timed 2:15.0, which equates to an automatic 2:15.24.

Varsell, who broke the record in the 400 on Friday, was 14th of 19th in the invitational 800 at Raleigh. She was one of only two non-Division I runners in the field.

In the 1500, Bentley sophomore Caitlin Fahey (Bridgewater, Mass./Bridgewater HS) won her heat in 4:49.05, a PR by 6.4 seconds. She was 12th of 75 in her section and 39th of 106 overall.
