Varsell Finishes 4th in 800 at NCAAs, Becoming Bentley’s First Women’s Track All-America

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Sophomore Amy Varsell (Burlington, Conn./Lewis S. Mills HS) became the first women's track and field All-America in Bentley University history when she finished fourth in the 800 meters Saturday night in the NCAA Division II Indoor Track Championships at the Albuquerque Convention Center.

Varsell posted a time of 2:12.26 in the race to trail only national champion Andria Nussey of Angelo State (2:10.42), Chanelle Caldwell of Grand Valley State (2:11.30) and Shawnee Carnell of Concord (2:11.97). A total of nine runners had qualified for the finals following Friday's trials, with Varsell being the sixth fastest qualifier.

According to coach Kevin Curtin, "Amy was in fourth at the 200 (31.7), 400 (32.5) and 600 (34.3). A few people passed her, but she rallied well on the final backstretch and turn to close in 34.0".
