Franklin Pierce Picks Up Win over Bentley

RINDGE, N.H. – Franklin Pierce improved to 5-1 in NE10 matches with a 6-1 victory over Bentley University on Friday afternoon.

The Ravens jumped out to an early lead by winning the doubles point. They then built upon their advantage in singles by taking five of the six matches.

Freshman Maria Mella (Santo Domingo, D.R.) earned a win for the Falcons in the No. 2 singles position. Matched up with Franklin Pierce's Liria Loria, Mella battled back to win in three sets. Loria won the first set 6-2, before Mella turned the tide in the second set and won it 6-2. Mella then won the third set tie break by a 10-7 score to take the match.

The win evened Mella's record on the season to 2-2 in singles play.

Bentley (2-3, 2-3 NE10) will next be in action on Wednesday when they host Stonehill at 3:00 PM.
