Hui & Petruzziello Stay Unbeaten in Singles in Bentley’s 7-2 Win over New Haven

 

WALTHAM, Mass. – Junior Rachel Hui (Hong Kong) and senior Alexia Petruzziello (North Haven, Conn./North Haven) continued their unbeaten starts to the season in singles matches, as they helped the Bentley women's tennis team defeat New Haven 7-2 on Saturday.

Hui, now 5-0 on the season in singles, defeated New Haven's Liloa Rodriguez in the No. 2 match, 6-2, 6-1. Petruzziello improved to 4-0 in singles play with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Angela Mercurio in the No. 6 match.

The Falcons also received singles wins from Tiffany Suchanek (Waterville, Maine/Waterville) in the No. 3 match, Katie Brandow (East Northport, N.Y./Northport) in the No. 4 match, and Jill Kamphaus (Walpole, Mass./Ursuline) in the No. 5 match. Suchanek defeated Ashley Varrone 6-4, 6-1, Brandow dropped just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Caitlyn Burridge, and Kamphaus likewise dropped just one game in defeating Shelby Clyne 6-0, 6-1.

In the doubles matches, Bentley took the No. 2 and No. 3 matches. Suchanek and Brandow saw off Varrone and Mercurio 8-4 in the No. 2 match, and freshman Evann Welty (Wayzata, Minn./Mound Westonka) and Corrie MacLean (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull) knocked off Burridge and Nocle Calabrese 8-1 in the No. 3 position.

The victory saw the Falcons' records improve to 5-1 overall and 3-1 NE10. They're back on the courts tomorrow for another home match against Adelphi.
