Bentley Finishes Gompei Invitational in 5th Place With Strong Effort Sunday

WORCESTER, Mass. – The three-day, 55-event Gompei Invitational at Worcester Polytechnic Institute drew to a close Sunday night with the Bentley University men's and women's swimming and diving teams finishing fifth among nine teams.

Senior Tanner Eisenhut (Jamesville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius HS), who won two events earlier in the weekend, broke the school record in the 100 yard individual medley in the prelims and finished third in the finals. He shattered the previous mark, 52.91 seconds that set in the same meet in 2019 by Zach Papsco, by more than a half-second, with a 52.24. He later came back with a 52.58 in the finals.

Eisenhut was also involved in Bentley's highest day three finish, a second in the mixed 400 free relay. He combined with senior Anthony Vizental (Concord, Calif./Clayton Valley HS), sophomore Madison Capria (Middle Village, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy HS) and senior Dariana Gonzales (Stamford, Conn./Westhill HS) for a 3:25.25. That trailed Bryant University by 5.04 seconds.

Along with Vizental, senior Ryan Looney (Wilton, Conn./Wilton HS) and sophomore Calvin Ye (Port Washington, N.Y./Paul D. Schreiber HS), Eisenhut was also part of Bentley's 400 free relay team that was fifth in 3:11.44.

Bentley had a trio of individual fourth-place finishes Sunday. They were freshman Morgan Kingsley (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia HS) in the 100 individual medley (1:02.68), sophomore Kenneth Ryu (Los Angeles, Calif./Loyola HS) in the 50 breaststroke (27.33) and junior Emma Hapkiewicz (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor HS) in the 1650 freestyle (17:38.90).

Fifth-place finishes were also achieved by Looney in the 100 free (47.49) and the women's 400 free relay team. Sophomore Jordan Nuzback (Fairview, Pa./McDowell HS), Hapkiewicz, Gonzales and senior Kate Galvin (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern HS) posted a time of 3:37.37.

Junior Andrew Matjucha (Randolph, N.J./Randolph HS) was sixth in the 1650 free (16:41.99), as was freshman Lily Rice (Walton, Ky./Larry A. Ryle HS) in the 200 butterfly (2:12.12).

In the one-meter diving results from Saturday night, sophomore Hilla Almog (Wayland/Wayland HS) completed a sweep of the traditional diving events with a score of 366.75 off the three-meter board. In addition, graduate student Jeremy Glick (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor HS) was sixth in the men's one-meter diving (367.10).

The team standings had Bentley fifth among the nine teams, an upward movement from sixth following Saturday's action. In the combined scoring, coach Mary Kay Samko's squads amassed 3,535 points.

Bryant, with a score of 8,037 points, claimed the team title with a winning margin of 3,003 points.

The Bentley divers will compete in the Pace Diving Invitational on Saturday. The swimmers won't return to action until January 10.
