Hapkiewicz Wins Twice, But Bentley Women’s Swimming Drops Opener

WALTHAM, Mass. – Despite two wins from junior Emma Hapkiewicz (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor HS), the Bentley University women's swimming and diving team fell to Wheaton College, 180.5-115.5, in its season-opener Friday night at the Dana Center.

It's the second straight season that the Lyons have spoiled the Falcons' debut.

Hapkiewicz, an NCAA Division II championship qualifier last season, won the 1,000 yard freestyle by 16.46 seconds with a time of 10:57.65 and the 500 free by 3.16 seconds with a 5:20.77.

Bentley's other winners were senior Dariana Gonzales (Stamford, Conn./Westhill HS) in the 200 free (1:57.17), sophomore Hilla Almog (Wayland/Wayland HS) in the one-meter diving (242.85) and sophomore Jordan Nuzback (Fairview, Pa./McDowell HS) in the 200 individual medley (2:14.62).

Nuzback also had two second-place finishes, in the 100 and 200 butterfly, as did freshman Taylor White (Warwick, Bermuda). White's came in the 100 backstroke (1:01.48) and the 500 free (5:23.93).

Wheaton was led by Katie Walz, who won three individual races (50 free, 100 free, 100 fly) and also participated on a winning relay.

Bentley's next two meets are on the road, Saturday at Le Moyne College and Sunday against Saint Rose.
