Bentley Sweeps Northeast-10 Weekly Swimming & Diving Awards

WALTHAM, Mass. – It was a near sweep of the latest Northeast-10 Conference weekly swimming and diving awards for the Bentley University Falcons with the honorees including senior Sebastian Bury (Bellevue, Wash./Newport Senior HS) and junior Kaitlin McGahie (Boylston/Tahanto Reg. HS).  

Bury was named the NE-10 Men's Swimming Athlete of the Week and McGahie received the same honor on the women's side. Senior All-America Nicola Mancini (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth HS) was cited as the Women's Diving Athlete of the Week for the third time this season and the 20th time in her career, Colton Bridge (Tolland, Conn./Tolland HS) was the Men's Diving Athlete of the Week for the fourth time during his senior year and the 16th time in his career, and the Rookies of the Week were freshmen Ryan McGeary (Paramus, N.J./Bergen Catholic HS) and Melissa Viator (Lubbock, Texas/ Lubbock HS).

Bentley also had the Men's Relay Team of the Week with Bury, McGeary, sophomore Christopher Vukas (Randolph, N.J./Randolph HS) and freshman Matt Gwozdecke (Bristol, Conn./ St. Paul Catholic HS) cited for their time of 1:42.49 in the 200 medley.

All were recognized for their performances in the Falcons' sweep of Norwich University Saturday afternoon at Brandeis University. The women's team improved to 5-1 on the year and the men squared their record at 3-3.

McGahie, who was cited as the Swimmer of the Week for the second time in her career, was a triple-winner as she captured the 50 yard breaststroke (33.03), the 100 breast (1:11.07) and the 50 butterfly (28.42). She was also part of a 200 medley relay team that finished second in 2:06.05.

Bury was first in both the 50 freestyle (22.57) and the 100 free (50.16) as well as the anchor on Bentley's winning 200 medley relay team (1:42.49).

Bridge met the standard for the NCAA Division II pre-qualification meet and extended his win skein to 10 as he swept the two one-meter diving competitions. His scores were 183.90 and 285.05 for a total of 468.95. On the women's side, Mancini swept the two one-meter diving competitions with a combined score of 468.65. Her 205.90 on the five-dive voluntary was a school record.

McGeary swam to victory in the 1000 freestyle (10:44.68) and the 100 breaststroke (1:05.62) after swimming a leg in the 200 medley relay. Viator competed in three events in the meet and left the pool victorious each time with times of 2:03.00 in the 200 freestyle, 26.80 in the 50 free and 1:04.48 in the 100 individual medley.

Bentley returns to action Jan. 9 at home against Pace University with the women's team also taking on Merrimack College that day.
