3 Bentley Divers Headed to Ohio for NCAA Division II Championships

WALTHAM, Mass. – Three sophomore divers from Bentley University, including 2013 All-America Nicola Mancini (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth HS), will be headed to Geneva, Ohio, to compete in the NCAA Division II pre-qualification meet on Tuesday, March 11 at the Spire Institute.

Joining Mancini will be Colton Bridge (Tolland, Conn.) and Courtney Stone (Andover/ Andover HS), each of whom earned the right to compete for the first time.

A total of 43 women and 26 men will be competing in the pre-qualification meet. Eighteen men and 22 women will advance to compete in the NCAA Division II Championships, which will be held over the following four days.

The top nine male and top 11 female divers on each of the two boards will automatically qualify for the championships. If there are divers who qualify on both boards, then additional divers will be added to complete the field.

Mancini, the Northeast-10 champion off of both boards for the second straight year, enters the pre-qual meet unbeaten this season. During the season, she broke both school records from the three-meter board (312.55 for six dives, 457.45 for 11) and the 11-dive standard off the one-meter (492.50). Last year at the NCAAs, Mancini placed eighth off the one-meter board to become the first women's diving All-America in program history and was also 13th from the three-meter.

Bridge, also a member of the Bentley soccer team, finished second in both the one-meter and three-meter competitions at the Northeast-10 Championships.  His best scores thus far this season have been 447.25 in the one-meter and 399.45 in the three-meter.

Stone, a first-year member of the Bentley team, was eighth off the one-meter board during the Northeast-10 Championships. She met the standard for the pre-qual meet with her performance on the one-meter board against Brandeis back in November.

Bentley is one of only eight institutions that will have at least three divers competing in the pre-qual meet.
