Bentley Swimmers & Divers Set for Northeast-10 Championships

PROGRAM | PSYCH SHEET | EVENT SCHEDULE | RECORDS  | LIVE RESULTS

WALTHAM, Mass. – Current members of the Bentley University swimming and diving teams own a total of 19 individual medals from previous Northeast-10 Conference championships. They'll be looking to add to that total over the coming days when the 2014 championships are contested at Southern Connecticut State University's Hutchinson Natatorium Thursday through Sunday.

The list of Bentley medal winners is topped by junior Nadine Edwards (Danbury, Conn./ Danbury HS) and sophomore All-America Nicola Mancini (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth HS). Edwards is a two-time gold medalist (500 yard freestyle in 2012, 200 free in 2013) and has a total of five medals to her credit. Mancini, who is undefeated this year, captured gold in both the one-meter and three-meter diving last year, a performance that helped earn her 2013 Northeast-10 Women's Diving Athlete of the Year honors.

Six of the 19 medals have come in diving. In addition to Mancini, sophomore Colton Bridge (Tolland, Conn./Tolland HS) earned bronze off both boards last year while junior Paige Wilde (Naugatuck, Conn./Holy Cross HS) finished second on the one-meter in 2012 and third on the three-meter last year.

Sophomore Sebastian Bury (Bellevue, Wash./Newport Senior HS) is the defending gold medalist in the 100 free, and his freshman year also included a bronze in the 200 fee. Also on the men's side, sophomore Tim Connolly (Dorchester/Boston Latin Academy) received bronze in both the 100 and 200 backstroke events last year.

On the women's side, senior Amanda Le (Chelmsford/Chelmsford HS) will be looking for her first gold after winning bronze in the 200 breaststroke in 2012 and silver in the same last season. With a 2:27.66, she owns the best qualifying time in the event by 1.61 seconds.

Junior Danielle Hellstern (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug HS) captured bronze twice in 2013, in both the 50 free and 100 free.

A pre-championship poll of conference coaches listed Bentley third on both the men's and women's sides. Southern Connecticut State, which has won 11 women's and 10 men's titles to its credit, was once-again deemed the favorite while Assumption was picked second in the women's pre-meet poll and Le Moyne nosed out the Falcons for second in the men's voting.

This year's championships have been expanded from three to four days with Thursday's action including the one-meter diving and the 800 freestyle relay, with prelims at 2 pm and finals in the evening. Friday, Saturday and Sunday will have the standard 10 am trials and 6 pm finals.
