Bentley Falls to Saint Anselm 2-1; Vachon Scores for Falcons

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Junior Gabby Vachon scored an 83rd minute goal, but Bentley fell at Saint Anselm 2-1 in a non-conference match on Wednesday afternoon.

The Hawks took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Allison Silverstein in the 35th minute. They held on to the lead deep into the second half and added to it on a goal by midfielder Zarina Pinto in the 80th minute.

Bentley had a quick response to Pinto's goal when Vachon cut the deficit in half just under three minutes later.

The goal came off a corner kick that was taken in the left corner by Megan Daly. Jillian Hendriksen was first to it on the far post and she headed the ball forward to Vachon, who got a quick touch on it to beat Saint Anselm keeper Maggie Warner for the goal.

With just over four minutes left Hendriksen and Vachon nearly combined for the equalizer. Hendriksen sent a cross in from the right wing that Warner couldn't control, allowing Vachon to get a shot on goal that was cleared off the line by Saint Anselm's Gabrielle Chisholm.

For the Falcons it was their first defeat in four matches this season. Their record drops to 1-1-2. They will be back in action on September 19 at Assumption for the first NE10 match of the season.
