Bentley and Assumption Play to 0-0 Tie

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley and Assumption played to a 0-0 tie in the home opener for the Falcons on Wednesday afternoon.

It was a non-conference match for the two local rivals. They will meet again with Northeast-10 points on the line in less than two weeks on September 19, with the location switched to Worcester.

Falcons keeper Claire Ewen made seven saves, which was one off her career high.

Both teams had good scoring chances at the end of the 1st half.

Bentley's opportunity came off a free kick in the 44th minute from about 22 yards out. Jill Hendriksen played a pass to the top of the 18-yard box, followed by a pass to the near post to Athena Kordis inside the six-yard box, however Kordis' shot was denied by Greyhounds keeper Frida Larrson.

Just over a minute later Assumption's Tessa Azzinaro broke through the Bentley defense for a one-on-one with Ewen, but Ewen charged out to deny Azzinaro's shot.

Ewen made five more saves in the 2nd half to take her total to seven.

Bentley had two shots on goal inside the final five minutes, from Jill Hendriksen and Sydney O'Connor.

The Falcons record goes to 1-0-2 on the season. They will be back in action on Friday at Franklin Pierce in a non-conference match to start a four-match road trip.
