Jones and Ewen Shine in Bentley’s 1-1 Draw with Franklin Pierce

WALTHAM, Mass. – Junior midfielder Brooke Jones (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) and sophomore goalkeeper Claire Ewen (Arlington, Mass./Arlington) played big roles as the Bentley women's soccer team drew with Franklin Pierce 1-1 on Wednesday afternoon.

Jones scored on a brilliantly taken free kick in the 38th minute to give Bentley a 1-0 lead. A Franklin Pierce foul gave the Falcons a free kick from about 25 yards out. Jones stepped and struck it well to beat the Franklin Pierce keeper with a curled shot to the bottom right corner.

Bentley took that 1-0 lead into the 77th minute, but Franklin Pierce had a chance to equalize after a foul in the 18-yard box led to a penalty kick for the Ravens. Jasmine Perez-Acosta was selected to take it, but Ewen denied her with a diving save to her left to keep the Falcons in front.

Ewen finished the afternoon with three saves.

Just 52 seconds from the end however, the Ravens did find the tying goal off the foot of Aino Martikainen, who swept in a shot after she took a pass into the box from Delaney Farinha.

The result moves Bentley's record to 0-1-2 on the season, while the Ravens go to 2-0-1.

The Falcons will be back in action on Saturday when they host Daemen at 11:00 am.
