Goals by Sullivan and Andriano Lift Bentley Past Saint Anselm 2-1

WALTHAM, Mass. – Goals by McKenzie Sullivan (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) and Amanda Andriano (Fort Salonga, N.Y./St. Anthony's) lifted the Bentley University women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Saint Anselm on the final day of the regular season.

With the win, the Falcons secured a top-four spot in the NE10 standings and a home playoff game in the NE10 quarterfinals. Their opponent for Sunday's quarterfinal match will be determined later tonight.

It was also a big win in the regional rankings for Bentley to knock off Saint Anselm. The Hawks came into the day ranked 4th in the East Region and the Falcons were 7th in the East Region.

The Falcons had a couple of opportunities to score in the 1st half, but it was big defensive play by graduate center back Megan Doubleday in the 28th minute that gave them a big lift. Off a Saint Anselm free kick from just outside the 18-yard box, the ball fell to Saint Anselm's Riley DiGilio for a shot from close range. The ball appeared headed for the back of the net, only for Conry to clear it off the line at the last second.

Bentley then took a 1-0 lead just 23 seconds before halftime. Freshman Sydney O'Connor (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) dribbled forward and dropped off a pass to Sullivan, who ran onto the pass and unleashed a long-range shot from about 25 yards out that beat the Saint Anselm keeper high and to the near post.

Andriano then gave the Falcons a 2-0 lead in the 56th minute. O'Connor was involved in the build-up again for her second assist. She beat two Saint Anselm defenders deep in the left corner to get a cross into the six-yard box that the Saint Anselm keeper palmed away, only for Andriano to pounce on the rebound for the goal.

The Hawks did pull a goal back in the 68th minute with a goal off a corner kick from Regan Pratt to make it a 2-1 game.

But Bentley held firm over the final 22 minutes, which included two saves from graduate student goalkeeper Kat Hassapis (North Reading, Mass./North Reading).

The Falcons concluded the regular season with an 8-5-3 overall record and an 8-4-1 NE10 mark. The Hawks dropped to 9-5-1 overall and 7-5-1 NE10.
