Jones’ PK Helps Bentley to 1-0 Win at Saint Michael’s

COLCHESTER, Vt. – Junior Brooke Jones (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) converted a penalty kick in the 78th minute to break a scoreless tie and to send the Bentley women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory at Saint Michael's on Friday afternoon.

With the match scoreless and approaching the final 10 minutes of regulation, Bentley was given a penalty kick opportunity after a Saint Michael's foul in the 18-yard box.

Jones was chosen to take the kick. She fired low and to the right corner of the net, past the outstretched arms of St. Michael's keeper Katie Escobedo for the goal. It was her 5th goal of the season.

Bentley outshot the Purple Knights 12-8 overall and 6-3 in shots on goal.

Jones led the team with three shots on goal and senior Dana Goulet (Wilmington, Mass./Wilmington) had two.

Graduate student goalkeeper Kat Hassapis (North Reading, Mass./North Reading) and the Falcons backline helped the team keep their seventh clean sheet of the season.

It's the 4th shutout of the season for Hassapis and the 15th of her career, which builds upon the program record for career shutouts she already owns.

The win improved Bentley's record to 7-5-3 overall and 7-4-1 in the NE10.

They will play the final match of the regular season on Wednesday at home against Saint Anslem at 3:00 pm.
