Bentley Defeats Stonehill 2-1 Behind Goals by Andriano and O’Connor

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University improved to 5-1-1 in the Northeast-10 with a 2-1 victory over Stonehill College on Tuesday afternoon.

Senior Amanda Andriano (Fort Salonga, N.Y./St. Anthony's) got the Falcons on the board early with a 3rd minute goal, and freshman Sydney O'Connor (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) scored on a brilliant long-range shot in the 79th minute.

Andriano's goal came after a quick pass in midfield by freshman center back Jillian Hendriksen (Pembroke, Mass./Pembroke) to senior Rebecca Nguyen (Dudley, Mass./Shepherd Hill). Nguyen then played a through ball down the right-hand side to Andriano, who ran on to the ball on the goal line.

Andriano then chipped a shot on net that went in at a tight angle to give Bentley an early 1-0 lead.

The game match stayed 1-0 deep into the 2nd half until O'Connor's goal doubled Bentley's lead in the 79th minute. O'Connor gained possession near the center line and dribbled at the Stonehill defense until from about 30 yards away she launched a shot that beat the Stonehill keeper for her 4th goal of the season.

Bentley's bid for a 6th shutout of the season was ended when Stonehill scored in the 86th minute. A goal by Lauren Clement from the top of the 18-yard box to the far post pulled the Skyhawks to within 2-1.

But the Falcons didn't allow Stonehill another shot at goal and secured the victory.

Freshman goalkeeper Claire Ewen (Arlington, Mass./Arlington) made three saves to earn her second win in a row.

The Falcons will look for another victory on Saturday night when they visit Pace for a 7:00 pm kickoff.
