ALBANY, N.Y. – Freshman Sydney O'Connor (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) scored her 3rd goal of the season, but the Bentley women's soccer team dropped its first NE10 match of the season on Saturday, 3-1 to No. 3 ranked Saint Rose.
The Golden Knights, ranked No. 3 in Division II this week, improved to 6-0 on the season. The Falcons, who came into the match with a 3-0 NE10 record on the season, fell to 3-2-2 overall and 3-1 in NE10 play.
Saint Rose's Mia Klammer scored two quick goals, in the 7th and 9th minutes, to give the host Golden Knights an early 2-0 lead.
Those goals snapped Bentley's streak of 276 minutes without conceding a goal to begin the NE10 schedule, which covered three-plus matches.
O'Connor pulled a goal back for Bentley in the 35th minute, which followed two quick passes by seniors Amanda Andriano (Fort Salonga, N.Y./St. Anthony's) and Rebecca Nguyen (Dudley, Mass./Shepherd Hill) who had assists on the goal.
The match stayed 2-1 deep into the second half, until Saint Rose's Lauren Amerena scored in the 81st minute to put them ahead 3-1.
Despite the defeat, Bentley will end the weekend tied for 2nd place in the NE10 standings.
The team's next game is on Wednesday night at Assumption. Kickoff is 7:00 pm.
