Bentley Improves to 2-0 in NE10 Play with 3-0 Win over Southern Conn St.

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University made it six points out of six to begin its Northeast-10 Conference schedule with a 3-0 victory over visiting Southern Connecticut State on Saturday.

Freshman Sydney O'Connor (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) scored two goals and junior Brooke Jones (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) buried a penalty kick for the Falcon goals.

Bentley's defense meanwhile limited the Owls to just three shots on goal as they kept their second straight clean sheet. Graduate student goalkeeper Kat Hassapis (North Reading, Mass./North Reading) recorded her 22nd career win and 13th career shutout.

After a scoreless first half, the Falcons exploded for the three goals in a span of just six minutes.

The opening goal came after senior Dana Goulet (Wilmington, Mass./Wilmington) played a through ball near the middle of the field down the right wing to release O'Connor who ran onto the pass. O'Connor took a few dribbles into the penalty area and unleased a low shot that beat Owls keeper Allie Smith to the far post for a 1-0 lead in the 60th minute.

Just over two minutes later Bentley was awarded a penalty kick after an Owls player was called for a handball in the box.

Jones was called on to take the kick, and she buried to the left of Smith to give Bentley a 2-0 lead in the 62nd minute.

O'Connor then scored her second of the day with a brilliant long-range strike from about 22 yards. She gained possession off a throw-in and took several dribbles to the edge of the box, where she unleased a shot that went straight to the top corner for a 3-0 lead.

The Falcons improved to 2-1-2 overall and 2-0 in the NE10 with the win.

They will go for a third straight win on Tuesday when they host Adelphi at 3:30 pm.
