Bentley Falls in Season Opener to Molloy, 1-0 in 2OT

WALTHAM, Mass. – In what was a rematch of the last game they played, in the 2019 NCAA Tournament, the Bentley women's soccer team came up just short as they fell to Molloy 1-0 in double overtime in the season opener of the 2021 season.

Molloy's Sarah Tappeto scored off a corner kick in the 105th minute to give the visiting Lions the win.

Graduate student and All-Conference keeper Kat Hassapis (North Reading, Mass./North Reading) made 10 saves for Bentley.

The Bentley defense, led by Maeli Cherry (Westford, Mass./Westford), Jayne Conry (Bolton, Mass./Nashoba) and freshman Jillian Hendriksen (Pembroke, Mass./Pembroke) kept Molloy's leading scorer Dana Poetzsch in check. Poetzsch, who had 25 goals back in 2019, had seven shots on the day but none from dangerous positions.

The Falcons put seven shots on Molloy's Jackie Carty. Juniors Liliana Silva (North Grafton, Mass./North Grafton) and McKenzie Sullivan (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) led the team with two shots each.

Bentley continues it's season opening home stand on Wednesday, Sept. 8 against Wilmington (Del.)
