Derba Makes Eight Saves but Bentley Falls at Saint Anselm 1-0

MANCHESTER, N.H. –Junior keeper Nicole Derba (Franklin, Mass./Fontbonne Academy) made eight saves, but Bentley could not find the net as they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Saint Anselm in Northeast-10 women's soccer action Wednesday afternoon.

Freshman forward Nicole Rust scored the match's only goal in the 37th minute, but it was enough to give the Hawks the win, improving their record to 2-2-1 overall and 1-1 in the NE-10. Bentley falls to 1-3 overall and 0-2 in NE-10 play.

Bentley had more scoring chances in the first half, putting seven shots on net to Saint Anselm's five. But Hawks goalie, junior Gabriella Primera, stopped them all. The home side then got its goal toward the end of the half from Rust, who took a pass from senior Maura Kelly at the top of the penalty box and fired her shot in.

Bentley's best chance to tie came in the 88th minute off a corner kick from senior Kelsey Regan (Holliston, Mass./Holliston) to the center of the penalty box, but the Hawks defense was able to clear it away. Saint Anselm turned the tide some in the second half, getting four shots on net against Bentley's two.

After playing its first four matches of the season on the road, Bentley plays its home-opener on Saturday against New Haven. Kickoff is set for 1:00 pm.
