Hynds Comes Up Big in Overtime as Bentley Draws with Saint Anselm 0-0

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley's sophomore goalkeeper Christiana Hynds (West Roxbury, Mass./Boston Latin) made three saves in overtime to help preserve the Falcons' 0-0 draw with Saint Anselm on Wednesday afternoon in Northeast-10 women's soccer.

The draw extends Bentley's (3-0-1, 1-0-1 NE-10) unbeaten streak to four to begin the season and gives them four points from their first two NE-10 matches. Saint Anselm goes to 1-2-1 overall and 0-1-1 in the conference.

After a scoreless first 90 minutes, Hynds twice denied Hawks sophomore midfielder Jenna Szostak in the first overtime period. The first came on a breakaway for Szostak in the 93rd minute, but Hynds charged out to snuff out the scoring chance. In the 95th minute, Hynds denied a tricky 15 yard shot by Szostak from the left corner of the penalty area to keep the match going.

The Falcons had an excellent chance late in the first overtime period on a shot by freshman Caroline Fitzgerald (Lexington, Mass./Lexington). Junior Sydney Spiegel (South Easton, Mass./Oliver Ames) helped set the shot up, feeding Fitzgerald a clever pass inside the box for a shot from 10 yards away that was headed for the upper left hand corner of the net, but Hawks keeper Gabriella Primera knocked it away.

Both teams had their share of chances in regulation. Hynds came up with four saves in the first 90 minutes, including a diving one handed save to deny midfielder Jackie McEvoy's shot that was headed for the upper left hand corner of the net in the 21st minute.

Primera made five saves in regulation, but didn't have to make a save on one of Bentley's best chances, a 30 yard free kick from junior Jenna Skagerlind (Holden, Mass./Wachusett Regional) that whistled just over the cross bar.

Bentley will look to keep its unbeaten streak going on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. when they face New Haven on the road.
