#20 Bentley Drops Heartbreaker in Overtime to #3 Adelphi 14-13

WALTHAM, Mass. – Adelphi's Danielle Marino scored on a free-position shot 4:04 into overtime to give the Panthers a tough 14-13 victory over Bentley on a rainy Saturday afternoon.

A back-and-forth game between two nationally ranked teams featured 10 lead changes and nine ties.

The Falcons trailed 13-11 with under three minutes remaining in regulation but scored twice to force overtime. Amanda Davis scored with 2:38 left, her seventh goal of the afternoon, to make it a 13-12 game.

Bentley won the ensuing draw control but turned the ball over, only for the Panthers to turn it over right back. That gave Bentley possession and a timeout with 1:23 left.

Out of the timeout, Courtney Dermody had a shot saved but the Falcons maintained possession and with nine seconds remaining Maeve Johnson found Dermody for the tying goal to send the game to OT 13-13.

Adelphi had the opening possession of overtime but Bentley forced them into a shot clock violation. The Falcons gained possession and called a timeout but weren't able to score and the Panthers got the ball back.

On the next possession a Bentley foul led to an Adelphi free-position attempt, and Marino scored to give them the win.

The Falcons trailed 8-5 at halftime but went on a 4-0 run in the third quarter that spanned almost 10 minutes. Davis had three of the goals during the run and Caroline Affolter the other. Davis' goal at 5:07 of the 3rd gave them a 9-8 lead.

The fourth quarter featured three lead changes and three ties.

Davis' seven goals is a career-high and the most by a Falcon in a single-game since Julia Glavin in the 2021 season.

Johnson had four assists and Affolter had three goals and three assists.

The Falcons will next be in action on Wednesday afternoon at Assumption.
