No. 7 Le Moyne Pulls Away Late for 13-10 Win over No. 18 Bentley

WALTHAM, Mass. – In a close game, No. 7 Le Moyne scored the final four goals down the stretch to defeat No. 18 Bentley 13-10 on Saturday afternoon. Falcons goalie Ashlee Wargo (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) made 15 saves in the contest.

A goal by Bentley's Stephanie McAuliffe (Natick, Mass./Natick) at 13:18 of the fourth quarter gave them a 10-9 lead. That was the culmination of a 3-0 Bentley run that started in the 3rd quarter and gave them the lead.

Trailing 9-7, senior Sydney Lynch (Bedford, N.H./Bedford) scored off an assist from Courtney Dermody (Bedford, N.H./Bedford) at 4:07 of the 3rd quarter to cut the deficit to one goal.

Then just 38 seconds into the 4th quarter, Caroline Affolter (Newburyport, Mass./Central Catholic) scored off a pass from Abby Jowett (East Hampstead, N.H.) from behind the net to tie the score 9-9.

Lynch won the ensuing draw control and Bentley went down the field and went ahead 10-9 on McAuliffe's goal at 13:18, her 3rd goal of the day.

Seven minutes elapsed without a goal as the teams exchanged possessions, but the next goal went to Le Moyne as Rhonee Shea Pal scored the at 6:23 mark to tie the game.

The Dolphins then scored in a player-up situation with a free-position shot by Adrianna Nojaim to take an 11-10 lead. Le Moyne won the next draw control and scored again to take a 12-10 lead with a goal by Sara Goodwin with 4:09 remaining.

Bentley's Kenzie Lupton (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) would get a shot on goal saved by Le Moyne's Paige Crandall with 1:45 left. That would be their final shot on goal and Le Moyne would get one final tally with 1:03 remaining to make the score 13-10.

Early on in the game, the Falcons led 3-2 after the 1st quarter as Lupton scored all three goals. In the second quarter Le Moyne used a 4-0 run to take a 6-3 lead, but Bentley answered with a 3-0 run of its own. McAuliffe had two of the goals and Dermody had the other. Le Moyne went into halftime ahead 7-6 after Gemma Addonizio scored with 9 seconds left on the clock.

Both teams scored twice in the 3rd quarter. Wargo made a game-high six saves in that quarter, on her way to a season-high 15 for the game.
