No. 18 Bentley Shuts Down No. 9 Adelphi in 13-8 Victory

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – No. 18 ranked Bentley earned its second win of the season over a top-10 ranked team with a 13-8 victory over No. 9 Adelphi on Tuesday.

The Falcons, who also beat then-No. 2 Florida Southern on March 18, improved to 9-4 on the season and 7-2 in the Northeast-10.

Bentley held the Panthers to just 18 shots on goal, with 10 saves made by sophomore goalie Ashlee Wargo (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) and a game-high three caused turnovers by Emma Jadul (Reading, Mass./Reading). Bentley also won the draw control battle 14-11 and senior Sydney Lynch (Bedford, N.H./Bedford) had a game-high eight.

Senior attacker Kenzie Lupton (  Canandaigua, N.Y. / Canandaigua) helped the Falcons close out the game in the 4th quarter. With a 9-5 lead going into the final 15 minutes, she scored three of her four goals in the final quarter. She scored the final two goals of the game at the 6:59 and 6:05 marks to put them in front 13-8.

Bentley held Adelphi to just one shot after Lupton's final goal which Wargo saved.

Bentley led 6-3 at halftime and added to that lead in the 3rd quarter. Lupton scored just 12 seconds into the second half and Maeve Johnson (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) added two goals. Wargo made four saves in the quarter, her high for the game.

Johnson scored the final goal of the first half on a free-position as Bentley led 6-3 at the break.

Adelphi scored the game's first goal 2:37 into the game on a goal by Kerrin Heuser but did not score again in the opening period as Bentley built a 4-1 lead. Amanda Davis (Saunderstown, R.I./La Salle), Steph McAuliffe (Natick, Mass./Natick), Johnson and Lynch had goals in the first quarter.
