Late Goal Gives Saint Rose 17-16 Upset of No. 12 Bentley

WALTHAM, Mass. – Saint Rose's Katy McPeak scored on a free-position shot with four seconds remaining to give the Golden Knights a 17-16 upset victory over No. 12 Bentley on Saturday afternoon.

A goal by Bentley's Stephanie McAuliffe (Natick, Mass./Natick) with 57 seconds left tied the game 16-16.

McPeak won the ensuing draw control and as the Golden Knights worked the ball on the cage, the were given a free-position shot with 22 seconds left. Bentley's goalie Ashlee Wargo (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) saved the free-position shot by Eillen Rattigan, but Saint Rose's Daria Bock was able to scoop up the ground ball.

A foul on Bentley with six seconds left gave the Golden Knights another free-position attempt, and McPeak scored on this one to give them a 17-16 lead with four ticks remaining.

Bentley led much of the game until a 4-1 run by Saint Rose in the 4th quarter put them in front.

Bentley's Courtney Dermody (Bedford, N.H./Bedford) scored at the 9:53 mark to give them a 15-13 lead. But the Knights then went on a 3-0 run over the next five-plus minutes. Rattigan scored at the 3:20 mark to put them in front 16-15.

The teams traded possessions after Rattigan's goal, and Bentley tied it 16-16 on McAuliffe's goal with 57 seconds left.

Sydney Lynch (Bedford, N.H./Bedford) had a game-high seven draw controls.

Dermody had a game-high five goals for the Falcons, who fell to 6-3 on the season. It's their first NE10 defeat of the season and drops their record to 4-1. Saint Rose improves to 6-4 and 2-3 in the NE10.
