No. 2 Adelphi Stays Unbeaten with Hard-Fought 13-6 Win over Bentley

WALTHAM, Mass. – No. 2 ranked Adelphi improved to 13-0 on the season with a hard-fought 13-6 victory over the Bentley women's lacrosse team on Wednesday night.

The Panthers came into the game allowing a league best 5.25 goals per game, and they were again right around that number as they held the Falcons to a season-low six goals.

Senior attacker Christina McCabe led the Panthers attack with four goals and three assists, and Jamie Mecca, Emily Beier and Izzy Grant each chipped in two goals as well.

For the Falcons, grad student Cara McCarthy (Salem, N.H./Central Catholic) and senior Glenna Gies (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) each scored two goals. Junior goalie Maya Rose (East Lyme, Conn./East Lyme) came up with several big saves and finished with eight total on the night.

Bentley led 3-2 after the first quarter. McCarthy scored the game's first goal on a free-position shot 1:22 into the proceedings. The teams then traded goals over the rest of the period, and junior Sydney Lynch (Bedford, N.H./Bedford) scored the final goal of the quarter with 45 seconds remaining to give Bentley a 3-2 lead.

But Adelphi outscored Bentley 6-1 in the 2nd quarter, as six different players scored. That gave the Panthers an 8-4 lead at halftime.

Only two goals were scored in the 3rd quarter and they came within the opening three-plus minutes. Mecca and McCabe were the goal scorers to give Adelphi a 10-4 lead after 45 minutes.

Bentley scored twice in the final quarter. McCarthy scored at the 12:28 mark, assisted by Stephanie McAuliffe (Natick, Mass./Natick) and Gies scored at the 5:38 mark, assisted by Maeve Johnson (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury).

The Falcons (6-6, 5-5 NE10) will be back in action on Saturday when they visit No. 9 ranked Le Moyne.
