No. 20 Bentley Falls in Overtime to Southern N.H., 15-14

WALTHAM, Mass. – Southern New Hampshire's Skylar Renaud scored 38 seconds into overtime to give the visiting Penmen a 15-14 victory over Bentley on Tuesday night.

The Penmen rallied from 13-10 down over the final 4:16 of regulation to force overtime by outscoring Bentley 4-1 in that stretch.

SNHU's Alexis Delucia won the opening draw control of overtime to give them possession. And after they worked the ball around for a bit, the ball found its way to Renaud, who drove in on net and scored from close range for the winning goal.

A 3-0 Bentley run in the 4th quarter, capped by a Maeve Johnson (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) goal at the 5:13 mark, put them in front 13-10. Kenzie Lupton (Canandaigua, N.Y.) and Glenna Gies (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) also scored during the run.

But SNHU scored two straight, from Eric Gorton and Angelina Graziano, to cut the deficit to 13-12 with 3:29 remaining.

A goal by Bentley's Courtney Dermody (Bedford, N.H./Bedford) at the 2:17 mark broke the run and gave the home side a 14-12 lead.

But the Penmen won the ensuing draw control and after two shots by Graziano that misfired, Renaud scored at the 1:30 mark to make it a one goal game again.

SNHU again won the draw control and after a Bentley foul in the eight-meter area, Gorton scored on a free-position shot to tie the game 14-14 with 52 seconds left.

Bentley's Cara McCarthy (Salem, N.H./Central Catholic) won the next draw control, but a turnover caused by Joeclyn Theriault gave the Penmen the ball back. A successful clear led to a shot just before the buzzer by Shelby Cole, but Falcons goalie Maya Rose (East Lyme, Conn./East Lyme) made the save and the game went to OT.

In the second half there were four lead changes.

Gies led Bentley in scoring on the night with three goals and two assists. McCarthy tied for the game-high with six draw controls.

Graziano had a game-high seven points, with five goals and two assists for the Penmen.

Bentley (4-4, 3-3 NE10) will look to bounce back on Saturday when they host Pace at noon for its Senior Day game.
