No. 14 Bentley Rallies from Six Goals Down for 13-12 Victory at No. 19 Assumption

WORCESTER, Mass. – No. 14 ranked Bentley rallied from a six goal deficit in the 3rd quarter to defeat No. 19 ranked Assumption 13-12 on the road on Tuesday afternoon.

The Falcons trailed 8-3 at halftime and 10-4 at the 9:51 mark of the 3rd quarter after a goal by Assumption's Jenna Joseph.

But Bentley went on a 9-2 run from that point to pull off the come from behind victory. They outscored Assumption 10-4 in the 2nd half overall.

Sophomore Maeve Johnson (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) scored the tying goal with 3:01 left in the 4th quarter to knot the game 12-12.

Assumption won the ensuring draw control, but Bentley's Katherine Hesslink (Shelburne, Vt./Canterbury) caused a turnover and picked up the ground ball to give her team possession. After a successful clear and a timeout, Cara McCarthy (Salem, N.H./Central Catholic) scored the go-ahead goal with 1:44 left.

Bentley's Caroline Affolter (Newburyport, Mass./Central Catholic) won the following draw control and they were able to run out the remaining time to secure the win.

After Joseph's goal gave Assumption a 10-4 lead, Bentley closed out the 3rd quarter on a 5-0 run. Caroline Boudreau (Foxborough, Mass./Foxborough) had the last goal of the run at the 2:17 mark to get the Falcons to within 10-9.

Assumption's Alison Foley scored to open the 4th quarter, but goals by McCarthy and Courtney Dermody (Bedford, N.H./Bedford) tied the score 11-11 with 5:26 remaining.

Assumption's Olivia Catanzarite scored at the 3:32 mark to briefly give them a 12-11 lead, before Johnson scored 31 seconds later to tie the game again.

Falcons goalie Maya Rose (East Lyme, Conn./East Lyme) made 11 saves to earn the win.

The win improved Bentley's record to 3-1 overall and 2-0 NE10. The team's next game is on Saturday at home against Stonehill at 4:00 pm.
